Dead or Alive!

Spoiler alert: contains comments on Dead Man walking.
After the initial shock of seeing Owen die last week, I immediately expected him to be fully resurrected the following week. Okay strictly speaking this does not happen. It would appear that by the end of the episode that Owen on a half life form will be about for a while longer. In a way this raises an interesting and intriguing question: what is life? If you cannot do the things you normally take for granted, how would you react?. The teaser for the following episode appears to attempt to answer that question.
However, back to Dead man walking. Jack rather predictably jeapordises the future of everyone for the sake of a friend. With some characters I would expect that to happen but somebody who has seen the consequences of time travel and the actions of others would surely resist the temptation? We see Jack in some sort of Hellfire club- I was a little disappointed with this scene- I'd like to have seen more of it and the characters who inhabit it. I know that this could be seen as a plot point for another story and I know that sometimes it is best to leave some things to the imagination but hey I CAN BE UNREASONABLE IF I WANT!
Shortly after this brief scene we See Jack in a church inhabited by Weevils and then finally Jack's goal: a resurrection glove.
Before we know it Owen is resurrected but still is technically dead. We then see the gradual deterioration of him until he is taken over by Death himself. After some chasing around a hospital it is Owen who saves the Day.
The story was engaging enough and Burn Gorman as Owen was excellent. Unfortunately, the focus on Owen resulted in Martha being relegated to the sidelines. Yet another good episode although I'm still waiting for a fantastic episode.

Good review.

To me, Owen hits the same problem as most zombie movies. They allow for the character to move, think and talk, but then say (or imply) that all the internal processes have shut down. Does lead to the question of where the energy to enable them to do stuff is coming from.
Yes they conveniently forget that particular piece of logic. Mind you as you have already pointed out it isn't just the makers of Torchwood who are guilty of that particular crime.
